OUTPACE / PRIVACY

Privacy Policy

Outpace is operated by Vrtl Pirates LLC. This policy explains how we handle information through the Outpace website, support and app. Contact us at support@outpaceapp.com.

This website provides information about Outpace. It has no app-account registration or health-upload form. The app sections below describe information handled when you use Outpace’s free step-competition features. App availability is separate from access to this website.

Outpace’s app is intended for adults 18 and older. You choose whether to connect health data, join groups, accept friends and share photos. Competition features use information stored on our servers as described below.

Your account

Clerk handles sign-in and verifies the contact information associated with your chosen sign-in method. Signing in with a provider may supply an email address, an Apple private relay address or a suggested name. You choose the display name you use in Outpace.

Outpace stores an account identifier, your chosen display name, profile settings and records of your age declaration and competition-rule acceptance. It also stores the social connections, group memberships, blocks, hidden-friend preferences and optional broad city-area selection you create in the app.

Steps and private activity

Connecting health data is optional. On iPhone, Outpace reads permitted information from Apple Health through HealthKit. In a supported Android version, it uses Health Connect. Initial onboarding requests access to steps. If you enable walking distance or active calories in Activity settings, the app requests those permissions separately.

Outpace uploads aggregate step totals for the competition windows you participate in, along with sync times and the identifiers needed to connect those totals to your account and competitions. Your private activity calendar stores daily step totals and the dates, timezones and windows needed to display that history. Walking distance and active calories are stored as private daily aggregates only when you enable those features. They do not affect competition rankings.

The app reads health information on your device to calculate these totals. It does not upload individual health samples or workout routes. Competition totals can refresh when you open or return to the app and while it is active.

We use these totals to show your activity, calculate competition results and maintain result history. You can revoke health permissions in your device settings. Revoking permission does not itself delete information already synced to Outpace.

What friends and group members can see

Your display name and shared competition totals are visible to current members of the relevant group and mutually accepted friends, according to the competition you join. Your private calendar, walking distance and active calories are not shared through rankings.

Public groups allow people to join. Private groups require an invitation. Consider the membership of a group before sharing competition information or a photo with it.

Hiding a friend changes your roster. Blocking hides reactions and winner images across that connection. Blocking does not remove shared-group competition records; those records follow group membership.

Photos and reactions

If you upload a default winner photo or a photo for a particular win, Outpace receives the original file for processing. The server decodes and re-encodes it into a new image, removing embedded metadata such as location information. The original upload is temporary processing material; the stored image is associated with your account or a result.

Winner photos go through review before being published to friends or groups. The service checks a viewer’s current access before delivering a shared winner image. Group admins can remove reported winner images, and a friends-circle viewer can remove an image from their own circle.

We also store reactions, reports and image-review records so these features can operate and concerns can be reviewed. Upload only photos you have the right to share and avoid including someone else’s private information.

City-area discovery

You may manually choose a broad US city area to discover public groups whose admins have opted into discovery. This feature does not request GPS or create a directory of nearby people. You can clear your selected area, hide a group from your discovery list or change the discovery setting for a group you administer.

Play points

If you use a play-points group, Outpace stores the points balance, your automatic-entry consent and the entries, results and adjustments needed to run that group. Play points have no cash value. They cannot be bought, withdrawn, donated or redeemed. The free release does not collect real-money entry payments or make cash payouts.

Support and diagnostics

When you use Help & feedback, Outpace stores your message and the support conversation so we can respond in the app. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the information you include. Please do not send passwords, sign-in codes, payment credentials or unnecessary medical details.

App diagnostics are associated with your account and record a fixed error code, platform, build and time. They help us investigate app failures. The current app diagnostic records are scheduled for deletion after 30 days and are also removed by account deletion.

Providers and website requests

Outpace uses Clerk for authentication and Convex for application data and hosted services. These providers process the information needed to perform their services, including relevant network, device and security metadata. This is separate from information you choose to share with friends and groups.

When you visit the website, your browser sends the information needed to request its pages and resources, such as your IP address and browser request information, to the services delivering them. Information you send through support is handled as described above.

Retention and account deletion

Account information, social records and activity history are retained to provide your account and its history until you remove the relevant information through an available control or delete your account. Unused earlier image assets become eligible for cleanup after 90 days. Current default photos remain while selected on your account, and images referenced by retained results can remain with those results. Deleting a group removes images uploaded specifically for its results; a default photo still used by your account or another result can remain.

You can request deletion inside the app. Once the server accepts the request, access to the account closes immediately. A server workflow then removes your personal step and activity history, uploaded image assets, social information, in-app support messages, diagnostics, image-review records and Clerk sign-in identity. The workflow continues if you close the app and retries delayed steps.

Groups with other members continue, with administration transferred when needed. Groups where you are the only member are deleted. Past results retain a Deleted member place with your name, personal step totals and image removed. Internal identifiers can remain in those results and in a deletion-operation record, which tracks completion and prevents an old session from recreating the account. These retained records should not be understood as a guarantee of complete anonymization.

For play-points groups, future reserved entries are canceled. An entry in a round that has already started remains in that round’s pool until settlement, without your name or photo being shown. Remaining points disappear when your account is deleted.

In-app account deletion does not automatically erase separate email correspondence. Contact support@outpaceapp.com if you want us to review a request concerning support emails. Removal from active services and expiration of provider backup copies are separate processes; contact us for information about a pending deletion request.

Your choices and requests

You can change your profile, manage friends and blocks, leave groups, control optional activity permissions, clear your city-area preference, report content and delete your account. These controls have different effects: leaving a group, revoking health access or removing the app does not itself delete your entire Outpace account.

To ask about information associated with your account, request access or correction, or exercise privacy rights available under applicable law, contact support@outpaceapp.com. We may need to verify that a request comes from the account holder before acting on it.

Age requirement

Outpace is intended for people 18 and older. Do not create an account if you are under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided information to Outpace, contact support@outpaceapp.com so we can review the account.

Changes

We will update this policy when the practices it describes change. Material changes will be disclosed in the app before introducing new collection or a money feature. Where a change requires your permission, we will request it separately.
